<p style="display: block; line-height: normal; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: Kranky, serif;">These recent songs explore some strong emotions and honest conversation while the music draws on piano and guitar driven slightly psychedelic folk-rock, blues and even a little gospel. It all began with a 2 week trip to LA with friends <strong style="font-weight: bold;">Zach Djanikian</strong> (Amos Lee), <strong style="font-weight: bold;">Shane Smith</strong> (Los Lobos/Feist) and<strong style="font-weight: bold;">Jesse Honig </strong>and finished up with a little help from friends from around the Philly scene including <strong style="font-weight: bold;">Ross Bellenoit, John Lilley and Rob Hyman of The<span style="text-decoration: underline;"> </span>Hooters</strong> as well as <strong style="font-weight: bold;">Matt Muir</strong> and members of my regular working band. It is the culmination of a year’s work and a collaboration of both music and art as I finished it all with some beautiful collage on the cover by Canadian turned Philly gal <strong style="font-weight: bold;">Alison Dilworth. </strong>And…away we go! Hope to see you this New Years Eve or sometime soon!</span></span></p>

At the beginning of November I will head West to do some shows with the gents of Pistol fOR Ringo. Looks like mostly California, but CA is a big state! Glad to get to see some parts of it which I haven't seen yet. We'll be playing tracks from our new EP "Better Left Broken" as well as some newer stuff we recorded last year. Come hang with us in some dirty little rock clubs and check out my alter-ego!</span></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;">In December the plan is to head out to Cali again and get the basics at least done on a new recording project I will hopefully have ready for spring. It will be all sort of psychedelic folk songs written over the last month on my newly rediscovered Gibson 12 string which was all but forgotten until recently. It has now become my songwriting slave. This will be a smaller scale, more personal and direct record which I will record with my old buddy Shane Smith, who also is a founding member of Pistol fOR Ringo. </span></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;">After the new year, US Rails will be heading over to Europe for our longest tour yet. That will all take place the latter part of January on through the end of February. Gonna go heat up the winter in Germany, France and The Netherlands. </span></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;">So...looking forward to making some new friends, creations, adventures and destinations. Keep checkin' in for all the particulars. </span></p>benarnold.comtag:benarnold.com,2005:Post/60238352011-07-30T17:00:00-07:002020-12-16T23:44:22-08:00US Rails Tour & New Record This August<p style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://us.mg1.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f17001043%5fACLvXkIAACE4TjKC2Q41iRECu8M&pid=2.4&fid=Inbox&inline=1" class="size_orig justify_inline border_" alt="" height="226" width="250" /></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-size: medium;">The saga continues...my international gang, <strong>US RAILS</strong> is excited to have our new record <strong>"Southern Canon"</strong> available at all shows on our Philly regional tour dates in advance of a January worldwide <strong>Blue Rose Records</strong> release, when we will also launch an extensive European tour. Clocking in at 13 new original tunes by myself as well as <strong>Scott Bricklin, Tom Gillam, Joseph Parsons</strong> and one from drummer <strong>Matt Muir</strong> too. "Southern Canon" was recorded last November in Germany. </span></span></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><strong>The U.S. dates will kick off at the <a href="http://www.pfs.org/folk-festival">50th Anniversary Philadelphia Folk Festival</a></strong> on Friday afternoon August 19th and include stops at many regional venues including Burlap & Bean, Steel City, The Queen, The Note & Tin Angel as well as The Saint in Asbury Park, Mauch Chunk Opera House in Jim Thorpe, The Bitter End in NYC and more. See the "<strong>TOUR</strong>" page for all dates and ticket info. We're really looking forward to playing an all new show and songs from our first record as well. We hope to see YOU at a show! <div><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: helvetica, sans-serif;">Named after a classic Spaghetti Western and completely unrelated to the Fab Four (although if Ringo wants to roll around town 'strapped', we sure as hell aren't going to judge), 'Pistol for Ringo' is back after 2003's wildly successful "Solid State Neo-Hedonist". Featuring original members Brian Murphy, Shane Smith, and Steve Arm, Pistol for Ringo have really grown into an indie-rock collective adding Philly-based singer-songwriter, Ben Arnold, and band-mate Matty Muir. A perfect example of the 'rich getting richer' (but in a cool non-Reaganomics way). <br><br>Playing everywhere from hipster joints in the 213-area code to opening for an S&M show in Vegas (not joking), Pistol 4 Ringo's live shows are as unpredictable as their music. Just one of many reasons they have endeared themselves to indie rock fans and the college music charts.<br><br>Soooo, what's the future for Pistol for Ringo you ask (and we're glad you did)??? Working with famed producer Manny Nieto, along with musical contributions from the likes of Dave Catching and Rob Barbato, Pistol for Ringo proves they are indeed not "Better Left Broken." </span></span></div>

Hope we'll see you at any one of these great spots. For all the info, see the "Tour" page. A fair amount of ground to cover here but I wanted to take the time to fill you all in on all the upcoming stuff.
NEW SOLO DISC I
While taking the time to properly finish and mix the recording project I've been working on for the past year and a half, I took a couple nights to record a quickie SOLO disc. SOLO; meaning me, myself and I playing guitar and piano and singing....alone. Features new tracks "Timeless", "Never Mind My Blues", "Sundown" and good 'ol ones like "Firefly" and "Bluegrass" as far back as I can remeber the words. If ya like what I've been doing over the years, you're gonna want to have one. It is being pressed and printed as we speak and will be available in short order at shows and on-line only.
NEW SOLO DISC II
This one, not so SOLO, we'll be mixing over next month and finally have available some time soon I'm sure!
NEW YORK, NEW YORK!
Joing me Friday December 15 at 8:30pm upstairs at The Living Room in NYC. Yep, they got a new spot called Googies. I'm thinking of it as kind of the Rec Room as I intend to wreck it on thier Liberace lookin' white grand piano!
4 WAY STREET becomes The U.S. RAILS
In an exciting metamorphosis, the unique Americana voice of Tom Gillam has joined Scott Bricklin, Joseph Parsons and Matt Muir and myself to record and form The U.S. Rails. We have a full length recording ready for mix and a very special one night show planned for Saturday December 23rd at World Cafe Live Downstairs with special guests Chris Kasper and Delaware's Johnny Duke & The Aces who are fresh off a tour with the legendary BB King.
FULL BAND SHOWS-ANTI NYE!!
Upcoming later in the month, I've decide to take New Years Eve off and play the Friday and Saturday nights before instead. Full band with Matt Muir, Scott Bricklin, Leeona and Jason Loughlin. We'll celebrate like it's still 2006 (but with a Democratic house).

Music and Lyrics by R. Newman
What has happened down here is the winds have changed
Clouds roll in from the north and it started to rain
Rained real hard and rained for a real long time
Six feet of water in the streets of Evangeline
The river rose all day
The river rose all night
Some people got lost in the flood
Some people got away alright
The river have busted through cleard down to Plaquemines
Six feet of water in the streets of Evangelne
Louisiana, Louisiana
They're tryin' to wash us away
They're tryin' to wash us away
President Coolidge came down in a railroad train
With a little fat man with a note-pad in his hand
The President say, "Little fat man isn't it a shame what the river has
done to this poor crackers land."

As well as 3 great tracks with my band, I had the good fortune of recording with some fantastic musicians including David Kalish, Sheldon Gomberg, Tom Brechtlein & Neil Larson of The Rickie Lee Jones band as well as Barrie Maguire, George Stanford (Townhall), Jim Stager and others.
A cool moment was recording a song called "Nevermind My Blues" with Pete Thomas of The Attractions on drums. Sweet & funny guy, resplendent in hawaiian shorts! See some pix of the dudes in the gallery! I'd also like to thank the people at Sings Like Hell for putting on areally special night up in Santa Barbara.
