Ringing in the New Year

Wishing everyone the happiest, healthiest and most peaceful holiday and New Year! What a year it's been.

October News

Very excited to be heading back to Europe on a duo tour with Scott Bricklin from US Rails and playing some songs from my new Blue Rose Records release "Lost Keys"!

Saying Hello

I Haven't forgotten you!! I am in the last throws of completing a brand new record for spring release (I hope!). It's a pretty fantastic throwback to the sounds of Motown, Stax, Philly Soul and Doo Wop. What?? Yup. Bet I got yer attention.

End OF The Year News-Circle 'Round The Sun

Hey Friends and Fans!

I have a lot to look forward to in the next few weeks!

First and foremost, I am so excited to finally release my new record “Circle ‘Round The Sun”! And fittingly, after one full spin around the Sun, I will be celebrating with a release party/New Years Eve hoedown at Steel City in Phoenixville on, well, New Years Eve o’ course! I’ve been making NYE at Steel City a tradition, only this year the band will be performing a large block of material from the new album live on New Years Eve and "Circle 'Round The Sun" will also be available for sale at the show. I really think it’s one of my best. I think you will too. Check out a tune!  "Float Down Stream"

These recent songs explore some strong emotions and honest conversation while the music draws on piano and guitar driven slightly psychedelic folk-rock, blues and even a little gospel. It all began with a 2 week trip to LA with friends Zach Djanikian (Amos Lee), Shane Smith (Los Lobos/Feist) andJesse Honig and finished up with a little help from friends from around the Philly scene including Ross Bellenoit, John Lilley and Rob Hyman of The Hooters as well as Matt Muir and members of my regular working band. It is the culmination of a year’s work and a collaboration of both music and art as I finished it all with some beautiful collage on the cover by Canadian turned Philly gal Alison Dilworth. And…away we go! Hope to see you this New Years Eve or sometime soon!

Fall-Winter 2011-12: P4R, US Rails & New Recording

I've had a pretty busy year so far and there is a lot of good stuff on the horizon. At the beginning of November I will head West to do some shows with the gents of Pistol fOR Ringo. Looks like mostly California, but CA is a big state! Glad to get to see some parts of it which I haven't seen yet. We'll be playing tracks from our new EP "Better Left Broken" as well as some newer stuff we recorded last year. Come hang with us in some dirty little rock clubs and check out my alter-ego!

In December the plan is to head out to Cali again and get the basics at least done on a new recording project I will hopefully have ready for spring. It will be all sort of psychedelic folk songs written over the last month on my newly rediscovered Gibson 12 string which was all but forgotten until recently. It has now become my songwriting slave. This will be a smaller scale, more personal and direct record which I will record with my old buddy Shane Smith, who also is a founding member of Pistol fOR Ringo.

After the new year, US Rails will be heading over to Europe for our longest tour yet. That will all take place the latter part of January on through the end of February. Gonna go heat up the winter in Germany, France and The Netherlands.

So...looking forward to making some new friends, creations, adventures and destinations. Keep checkin' in for all the particulars.

US Rails Tour & New Record This August

The saga international gang, US RAILS is excited to have our new record "Southern Canon" available at all shows on our Philly regional tour dates in advance of a January worldwide Blue Rose Records release, when we will also launch an extensive European tour. Clocking in at 13 new original tunes by myself as well as Scott Bricklin, Tom Gillam, Joseph Parsons and one from drummer Matt Muir too. "Southern Canon" was recorded last November in Germany.

The U.S. dates will kick off at the 50th Anniversary Philadelphia Folk Festival on Friday afternoon August 19th and include stops at many regional venues including Burlap & Bean, Steel City, The Queen, The Note & Tin Angel as well as The Saint in Asbury Park, Mauch Chunk Opera House in Jim Thorpe, The Bitter End in NYC and more. See the "TOUR" page for all dates and ticket info. We're really looking forward to playing an all new show and songs from our first record as well. We hope to see YOU at a show! To listen to some samples of the new record, take a minute to visit our Reverbnation page.

Pistol fOR Ringo: BETTER LEFT BROKEN on iTunes now!

One of my other band projects, Pistol fOR Ringo has just release a 5 song EP "BETTER LEFT BROKEN" on Sonata-Cantata Records. It is available now on iTunes. PLEASE check it out! HERE!!

Pistol is....
Named after a classic Spaghetti Western and completely unrelated to the Fab Four (although if Ringo wants to roll around town 'strapped', we sure as hell aren't going to judge), 'Pistol for Ringo' is back after 2003's wildly successful "Solid State Neo-Hedonist". Featuring original members Brian Murphy, Shane Smith, and Steve Arm, Pistol for Ringo have really grown into an indie-rock collective adding Philly-based singer-songwriter, Ben Arnold, and band-mate Matty Muir. A perfect example of the 'rich getting richer' (but in a cool non-Reaganomics way).

Playing everywhere from hipster joints in the 213-area code to opening for an S&M show in Vegas (not joking), Pistol 4 Ringo's live shows are as unpredictable as their music. Just one of many reasons they have endeared themselves to indie rock fans and the college music charts.

Soooo, what's the future for Pistol for Ringo you ask (and we're glad you did)??? Working with famed producer Manny Nieto, along with musical contributions from the likes of Dave Catching and Rob Barbato, Pistol for Ringo proves they are indeed not "Better Left Broken."

Summer Concerts 2011

Summer's here and the time is right for...sneezing. Yeah I got the allergies again. But nasal passages be damned, we'll be playing in the great outdoors again this year in many family friendly locales near you including Gorgas Park, The Bay Music Festival in Maryland, Princeton, Kennett Square and of course, The Devon Horse Show! Hope we'll see you at any one of these great spots. For all the info, see the "Tour" page. Keep an eye and an ear peeled for a string of US RAILS shows coming up towards the end of this summer as well with a new cd on Blue Rose Records, lots of new songs and loads of great venues to play.

German Tour Dates Confirmed

I will be returning to Germany in a couple weeks for 10 dates along with Scott Bricklin, who will be accompanying me. Will also be performing some of Scott's great songs and debuting some new songs which were recorded for the upcoming summer US Rails release. Hope we see you there! See dates on the "Tour" page.

SIMPLIFY on Blue Rose Records in Europe April 1st

Louisiana 1927 Music and Lyrics by R. Newman What has happened down here is the winds have changed Clouds roll in from the north and it started to rain Rained real hard and rained for a real long time Six feet of water in the streets of Evangeline The river rose all day The river rose all night Some people got lost in the flood Some people got away alright The river have busted through cleard down to Plaquemines Six feet of water in the streets of Evangelne Louisiana, Louisiana They're tryin' to wash us away They're tryin' to wash us away President Coolidge came down in a railroad train With a little fat man with a note-pad in his hand The President say, "Little fat man isn't it a shame what the river has done to this poor crackers land." Recording - Los Angeles 2005

I just returned from LA where I cut 10 new tunes for the next record. As well as 3 great tracks with my band, I had the good fortune of recording with some fantastic musicians including David Kalish, Sheldon Gomberg, Tom Brechtlein & Neil Larson of The Rickie Lee Jones band as well as Barrie Maguire, George Stanford (Townhall), Jim Stager and others. A cool moment was recording a song called "Nevermind My Blues" with Pete Thomas of The Attractions on drums. Sweet & funny guy, resplendent in hawaiian shorts! See some pix of the dudes in the gallery! I'd also like to thank the people at Sings Like Hell for putting on areally special night up in Santa Barbara. They know how to do it right.

For my next trick...

So, I know it would appear that I just released a record last year, but, in fact it was recorded almost 3 1/2 years ago today. In the meantime, I've written some new stuff and I'll be recording in the next couple months to see about getting a fresh one out soon. I'll also be playing a show or two in Southern CA. MAybe we'll see you there! Otherwise, I have a few shows in the East up until summer then I'm headed to Europe for a month of solo shows. Keepin' busy. Keepin' on.

email list

So...maybe some of you got a fairly indecipherable email from me last week. Sorry 'bout that. It was supposed to be a test, but ended up being a test of my patience instead! That's what a little distraction can do. Alright now, focus! I have an entirely new email system now. Users can delete, add, or edit their own info. Yay! my apologies for email sins of the past. - BA

Live Photos!

Check out the "Gallery" section for some great, very up to date live shots of my band as well as 4 Way Street. And, if you happen to take a few at a show yourself please feel free to send 'em to me!

Free Music!!

I dunno, just feelin' generous I guess! Thought you might like a little free demo...kinda like how all the people havin' babies lately wanna show ya ultrasound pictures of thier kids. Have fun "Suckin' Honey" on the Tunes page.
